Anne-Christine Roda
If Vermeer painted “The Girl with a Pearl Earring”, then Anne-Christine sketches the pearls of our time.
An expression, a gaze, a body - everything serves as a pretext to decipher the journey of a life. Surprising her models in the light of the canvas, the artist captures the soul of all humanity, refusing the compromise of maturity, pronounced fatigue, or wandering melancholy. Although ever-present and sovereign, aestheticism is elsewhere, with a terribly human and magnetic dimension.
Wrinkles, moles, and unflattering folds make up an unadorned vocabulary that forces humility.
The singularities of the body remind us of the diktat of social norms. A solitary dreadlock, an anonymous tattoo, or a triumphant piercing all testify to a quiet revolt, a mute cry, a striking otherness.
It reminds us how the body is both a private and public space. With their piercing and inquisitive gazes, Anne-Christine’s paintings leave us breathless, as they mirror our imperfections without reservation. The intimacy of the model then becomes the mirror of each of us.
